Feature Race Race 8: Belmont Sprint

Belmont Park is set to host a nine-part card on Saturday afternoon, with the action kicking off at 12:02pm local time. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 3m the entire circuit. The Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) is the featured event, offering $200,000 in prizemoney. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, top odds and quaddie selections for the Belmont meeting.

Belmont Sprint Best Bet: Elite Street

We were with Elite Street in the Roma Cup on May 15 when he was a good thing beaten, and we are happy to give him another chance for his second start back in WA. Having been competitive in Group 1 races on the east coast, the four-year-old gelding struck trouble at a crucial point at Ascot a fortnight ago and went down by the barest of margins in a desperately unlucky finish. This will be his first go at 1400m, but the Winterbottom Stakes winner is clearly the class runner in the field. From barrier 12, if Chris Parnham can get him so cover early on, Elite Street should find his way back into the winner’s stall with a strong turn of foot.

Best Bet Of The Day: Son Son

The Adam Durrant-trained Son Son is the one to be with in the opening leg of the Belmont quaddie. With four wins and three placings from seven starts, and with apprentice Laqdar Ramoly hopping on board, the three-year-old gelding looks hard to run down. Ramoly’s 2kg claim gets them in with 59kg, which is what Son Son carried in his last-start win at Ascot on May 15. From barrier five, he should have no issue in finding the front, setting the tempo and then kicking clear late in the piece.

Next Best: Ain’t No Other Man

We do not need to look far for Ain’t No Other Man, as he is the first runner in the form guide. The Sean Casey-trained two-year-old will look to box seat from barrier one, as he did on May 15 at Ascot when a smart winner. Laqdar Ramoly retains the ride, bringing the weight down to just 56kg with his 2kg claim. Stepping back from 1400m to 1200m should not be a deterrent as Ain’t No Other Man looks to make it three wins from six starts in his juvenile campaign.
