Racing returns to Belmont Park this Saturday afternoon, with a competitive nine-race program kicking off at 12:09pm AWST. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with rain on the forecast for Friday and Saturday, we expect the track to be downgraded before the start of the meeting. The rail will be in the +5m position, which should suit leaders and on-speed runners over the shorter distances.
Best Bet at Belmont – Rumour Says
Rumour Says began her four-year-old season with a very encouraging second behind Swim Through at this track and trip on August 19, where she was only beaten by half a head. This daughter of Deep Field enjoyed a fruitful two-year-old season, but she struggled as a three-year-old, where she didn’t find the winner’s circle once from her seven starts. However, the four-year-old mare’s return last start showed that she may have turned the corner, and she should be ready to win second-up. William Pike retains the ride, and if he can find the one-one from barrier three, Rumour Says should prove too good.

Next Best at Belmont – Villeins
The Grant & Alana Williams-trained Villeins was a very good winner last start at this track over 2100m on August 12, where William Pike gave him a peach of a ride to defeat Let’sdeal by just under a length. This son of Domesday will meet that runner again on Saturday, this time over 2200m. The extra distance should suit this gelding, as he appeared to be pulling away from his main rival in the final 50m. After drawing barrier one and retaining the services of Pike, Villeins should get the perfect run behind the speed to replicate his last-start success.

Best Value at Belmont – Success Play
Success Play will drop back to One Metro Win grade this Saturday after running an honest fifth in a Benchmark 66+ last start at this track and trip, where he went down to Sisu Warrior by just under three lengths. This five-year-old gelding will be having his eighth start for this preparation on Saturday, so there should be no worries about his fitness, and the track getting back into the Soft range should be a positive for him. Steven Parnham will have the option to take up the lead or settle in the box seat from barrier one, and if he allows Success Play to travel around the home turn under his own steam, this guy will give a good sight at double figures.
