The Belmont Racecourse will once again play host to another competitive nine-race card this Saturday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with no rain on the forecast we should be racing on a Good track for the first time in well over a month. The rail will be in the +6m position from the 1600m to 400m mark and in the +3m position for the remainder of the circuit. The action will begin at 12:29pm AWST.
Best Bet at Belmont – First Encounter
First Encounter brought up a hat-trick of wins when resuming at this track and trip on July 22. The four-year-old gelding has won three of his first four career starts, with his last victory being the most impressive of the three, after he took his time to balance up before gliding on past the leaders with 150m to run. This son of Dundeel will stay at 1400m second-up and will have taken natural improvement from his fresh run. With William Pike retaining the ride, we expect First Encounter to extend his winning streak to four in a row.

Next Best at Belmont – Colossal
Colossal and Sunny Honey will do battle again over 1200m at Belmont in the last race of the day, with the former looking to turn the tables from their last meeting. Last start, this son of Snitzel had to work through a bit of traffic back in the field to find the back of Sunny Honey, which gave the eventual winner too much off a buffer for him to claw back in the final 200m. William Pike will continue his strong affiliation with the five-year-old gelding, and if he can stay out of trouble, Colossal should be returning to the winner’s circle.

Best Value at Belmont – Tallangatta
After consecutive runner-up finishes, the Chris Willis-trained Tallangatta will be looking to go one better when he takes on another One Metro Win Handicap over 1600m. This six-year-old gelding gave the leader too much of a start at his last go and couldn’t reel in Sesswa, going down by a long neck on the line. Natasha Faithfull will be legged aboard for her third-straight ride on this son of Americain, and if she can find a back to follow around the home turn, Tallangatta will play a prominent role in the finish once again.
