Belmont Park will host a very competitive nine-race card this Saturday afternoon, with the program highlighted by the Listed Idyllic Prince Stakes. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with no rain on the forecast, we should be racing on a Good track for the first time this month. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race set to jump at 12:44pm AWST.
Idyllic Prince Stakes Tip: Valour Road
The Listed Idyllic Prince Stakes will feature Valour Road from the Simon Miller yard, who will be making his racetrack return after a 65-week spell. Since coming back into work, this eight-year-old gelding has been to the trails twice and produced two solid trials, indicating that he is feeling well going into his first race start in over a year. This son of Frost Giant is a multiple Group 3 winner and hasn’t race outside of Group company since October 2020. Chris Parnham has ridden this guy at both of his trials and will stick with him on Saturday, so if he can settle on-speed from barrier five, we expect Valour Road to prove too classy here.

Best Bet at Belmont: Red Fifty Three
Nothing went right for Red Fifty Three last start at this track over 1300m. This son of Gingerbread Man was restrained from the barrier and settled at the back of the field, but due to the slow speed he began to over race in the middle stages and it ultimately cost him the race. The Grant & Alana Williams-trained galloper was an impressive winner two starts back, when winning over 1200m at this track on August 8. With little speed expected in this race, William Pike should be able to kick up on the rail from barrier one and sit behind the speed in the box seat. If Pike can get Red Fifty Three to settle better and find clear air with 300m to go, he should be winning again.

Next Best at Belmont: Valency
Valency returned from a nine-week spell with a slashing finish down the outside to finish second behind Invincible Ruby over 1000m at this track on August 12. After such a strong performance first-up, this five-year-old mare will have taken a lot of benefit out of that run and will be fitter for this next start on Saturday. This daughter of Gingerbread Man has finished in the placings at four second-up starts, including one win that came last preparation. From barrier one, Jade McNaught should settle midfield on the rail and allow the speed to go, before getting off the fence to make her run and challenge the leaders late.

Best Value at Belmont: Ambergate Rose
The Fred Kersley-trained Ambergate Rose attempted the 2100m for the first time last start and she was far from disgraced, finishing fifth of 12. This seven-year-old mare settled back in the field and ran on nicely from the back, which was a credible performance considering she was making the jump from 1600m to 2100m. Now that this daughter of Thorn Dancer has a run over 2100m under her belt, we expect her to perform much better this time around from a better barrier (3). From the barrier, Brad Parnham should be able to settle closer and give Ambergate Rose a more economical run and every chance to finish the race off strong.
