Belmont Park is the destination for metropolitan racing in Western Australia on Saturday afternoon and the Nicopolis Stakes headlines a great day of racing. With plenty of rain around Perth and the surrounding areas, the track has come up a Soft 7, whilst the rail comes out 6m from the 1600m-400 and then out 3m the remainder.
Action over in WA gets underway at 12:04pm AWST.
Nicopolis Stakes Best Bet – Startrade
Worth $100,000, the Nicopolis Stakes has attracted a competitive field of 10 runners looking to take home their fair share of the prize money. Have won three of his past five starts, the Dan Morton-trained Startrade looks ready to take out a race like this if his last start performance was anything to go by. He was kept safe in betting when rocketing home to claim victory on September 3 and a repeat effort of that performance will have him hard to beat in this. The 1200m is his preferred trip, so the extra 200m he gains on Saturday will only benefit him and if Chris Parnham has him within striking distance on the home turn, this son of Trade Fair has the turn of foot which will blow his rivals away.

Best Bet at Belmont – Karli’s Karma
Summer Dickson puts the finishing touches on Karli’s Karma who is set to resume from a six-month spell and looks awfully hard to beat first up. The five-year-old mare was last seen finishing third behind Son Of A God and Bruce Almighty in the Listed Grandstand Cup when beaten a touch under three-lengths. It was a better performance than it reads on paper considering she suffered a bleed in running. She has trialled up a treat in the lead-up to this and considering she won first-up last time in, the $2.60 on offer with online betting sites looks to be a steal for a mare on the rise like Karli’s Karma.

Best Value at Belmont – Get In The Queue
In the opening leg of the quaddie, one we are willing to give a push for is the Lindsey Smith-trained Get In The Queue. Formerly with Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr, this five-year-old gelding has not been seen at the races since finishing fourth behind subsequent Doncaster Mile winner Mr Brightside and Alcyone almost 12 months to the day at Flemington. In that campaign he had shown plenty of ability and despite no doubt needing the run first-up, he might be able to get this done on class alone. He has had four trials in the lead up to this, so he must be raring to go. He’ll settle at the rear of the field under Joseph Azzopardi and armed with a strong turn of foot, it would not surprise to see him lob first-up after a long layoff.
