Belmont Park will host a very competitive nine-race card this Saturday afternoon, with the Listed Belmont Oaks and Aquanita Stakes highlighting the program. The Belmont track is currently rated a Soft 5; however, with no rain on the forecast for the Perth area on Friday and Saturday we expect to be racing on a Good surface come race day. The Belmont rail will be out in the +5m position for the entire circuit, with the first race set to jump at 12pm AWST.
Belmont Oaks Tip: Ihts Closing Inn
The Adam Durrant-trained Ihts Closing Inn is coming off three straight wins and will be seeking a fourth at his first attempt in Listed company, in the Belmont Oaks. This three-year-old filly will drop back from open age to three-year-old company in the Oaks and will be only one of two runners who have competed over 2000m before Saturday. This daughter of Sessions was dominant at this track and trip on June 10, where she smashed her rivals by 3.1 lengths as a drifting second favourite. William Pike has ridden this filly four times for four wins, so with him sticking, we are more than happy to have her on top here.

Aquanita Stakes Tip: Demolish
The two market fancies for the Aquanita Stakes come through the Belmont Guineas form line, and of those two we are siding with the Neville Parnham-trained Demolish, who finished third behind Rusty Dreams and Upper Limits. This three-year-old gelding was first-up going into the Guineas and 1600m was a little short of his best, so now that he steps up to 2000m second-up on Saturday, he will be much better suited. This son of Rich Enuff hasn’t won since November last year, but this appears to be his best chance to win in some time. From barrier four, Steven Parnham should find the one-one, before getting off the leaders’ heels at the top of the straight to make his presence felt in the final stages.

Best Bet at Belmont: Category Three
After a tough victory when first-up on May 27 at this track and trip, Category Three from the Adam Durrant yard will return to the scene of the crime after a four-week break between runs. First-up, William Pike had this daughter of Xtravagant in the back half of the field behind a wall of horses, before he produced a peach of a ride to burst through a gap and win arrogantly. This four-year-old mare has won three and placed in four of her nine starts throughout her career, while she is also yet to miss the placings from four starts over 1200m. William Pike will be legged back aboard for his fifth ride on this mare, and if he can have her settled closer from barrier two, Category Three will be winning again.

Next Best at Belmont: Rare Encounter
The Donna Riordan-trained Rare Encounter finished second behind the smart Noteworthy over 1600m last start on June 17 when she was second-up for this preparation. This four-year-old mare was no match for the winner last start, but she defeated the rest of the field by a length. This daughter of Al Maher should be finding her best now that she is third-up over 1600m once again on Saturday. Stepping up in class from a 60+ Handicap to a RTG 66+ will see her drop in the weights to 54kg – the lightest weight she has ever carried in her career. William Pike has retained the ride and if he can find a back to follow around the home turn, she will go very close.

Best Value at Belmont: Kia Ora Jewel
Kia Ora Jewel for the Simon Miller yard will be having her 12th start for the preparation this Saturday and she comes into the race after finding some form at her last three starts, recording a win and two thirds. Last start, this four-year-old mare settled at the back of the field and had to weave her way through the field before letting down to nab third on the line over 1600m. With a lot of speed expected in this event, the race should be run quick and will suit this daughter of Turn Me Loose who will get back from a wide barrier. If Troy Turner can get into the three-wide running line from the 600m, Kia Ora Jewel will be storming home late.
