Belmont is the scene for metropolitan racing in Western Australia on Saturday afternoon, with nine races scheduled for Roma Cup Day. Despite rain being forecast, we look set to start on a Good 4, whilst the rail is out 3m for the entire circuit. Racing is set to get underway at 12:04pm AWST.
Roma Cup Top Tip – Kaptain Kaos
The Group 3 Roma Cup over 1200m is the feature event at Belmont on Saturday afternoon with $200,000 on the line. A $29 chance with Bet365, the Michael Grantham-trained Kaptain Kaos looks to be a runner that market has forgotten, but one we are happy to side with. The four-year-old gelding finished just over a length off Kissonallforcheeks in the R.J. Peters Stakes in November, and form like that stacks up perfectly in a race like this. Having won all three of his starts at Belmont, including twice at the 1200m, the track clearly suits his get-back-and-run-on racing pattern. Having won five of his seven starts at the trip, including twice when fresh, Kaptain Kaos looks the one to be with – despite the big price.

Best Bet at Belmont – Top Of The Pops
Our best bet of the day is the first horse you will see in the race book, as the Daniel Morton-trained Top Of The Pops steps out in the opening event wearing the #1 saddle cloth. Despite doing plenty wrong last time out, the two-year-old gelding gave just enough to get the job done and keep his unbeaten record intact through two starts. With Hot Chatter and Elite Impact set to make this a genuinely run 1400m event, the race looks perfectly set up for Chris Parnham to use barrier one to his advantage and stalk the speed throughout. If Top Of The Pops finds clear air out of the home turn, we anticipate he will pounce on the lead and simply prove too hard to run down.

Next Best at Belmont – Devoted
The Michael Grantham-trained Devoted is all set to resume from a six-month spell and looks to be one of the better bets of the day on the Belmont card. The three-year-old gelding’s only win came on debut over 1300m, so we expect he will fire fresh when he steps out over 1400m. Despite drawing barrier five, look for Clint Johnston-Porter to ride him cold from the gate and have him building through the gears approaching the home turn. He has won both trials in convincing fashion and despite no doubt wanting further than 1400m as his campaign progresses, the $2.35 on offer from online betting sites in the small field of eight cannot be ignored.

Best Value at Belmont – Ginger Green
The Steve Wolfe-trained Ginger Green was another one we were with last time out, and he showed he was worth sticking with when getting the job done over the mile at Ascot on April 30. Having not finished worse than third in eight runs this campaign, the four-year-old gelding is the epitome of consistency, and having drawn barrier one, will take some holding out. Shaun McGruddy will have the Gingerbread Man stalking the speed throughout, much the same as he did at Ascot. With even luck he can build momentum approaching the turn, and on form he looks too good to be beaten. The $9.50 with Unibet is an inviting price to load into in the second leg of the quaddie.
