Begg’s mare to miss autumn

In-form trainer Grahame Begg has confirmed Niance (NZ) (Swiss Ace) will play no part in the Autumn Carnival after an untimely setback following an accident in the paddock.

The emerging lightly raced mare was a last-start winner of the Gr.3 How Now Stakes (1200m, $2.70F) at Caulfield, before being sent for a break, but will miss potential Group One targets in Melbourne and Sydney early next year.

“She’s out of play at the moment, hopefully we’ll be able to get her up for the spring,” Begg said on RSN927 on Monday morning.

“The form’s been absolutely outstanding around her … it’s disappointing but hopefully everything will be good with her and we’ll get her back in one piece.”

Raced by Ace Bloodstock, the five-year-old daughter of Swiss Ace has won six of her 10 career starts – just six of which have been in Australia – and taken home nearly A$350,000 in earnings.
