What Ballarat Races
Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Road, Miners Rest, VIC, 3352
When Tuesday, April 5, 2022
First Race 1:30pm AEST

Racing returns to Ballarat Turf Club on Tuesday where an eight-race card is set to be run on a Good 4, with the rail coming to out 8m for the day. Despite the rail coming out to the 8m mark, we expect the track to play fairly as it usually does at Ballarat, so each runner will get their chance throughout the day. We’re set to kick off the day of racing at 1:30pm AEST.

BEST BET AT BALLARAT: JAYANTHI

The Australian Derby winning combination from the weekend, Ciaron Maher & David Eustace with John Allen combine with second starter Jayanthi early on the Ballarat card. The three-year-old filly ran in to Do Ya Punk who looks to be a horse with plenty of ability and did well to go down by a half-length on the line. The pair put the best part of six lengths on the runner back in third, to suggest that wherever Jayanthi went, she should be winning. She draws perfectly in barrier one, where Allen should look to hold the rail, dictate terms throughout and ultimately prove too hard to run down. The $2.10 with online betting sites seems too good to be true.

NEXT BEST AT BALLARAT: COQUILLE

Coming off a dominant winning at the Ballarat 1200m, the Mitchell Freedman-trained Coquille returns to the track and trip in search of winning consecutive races for the first time in her career. The four-year-old mare settled at the rear of the field during the March 15 win, but stormed home down the centre of the track late to get up in impressive fashion. This race is certainly no harder and despite the 2kg rise in the weights, the Americain mare simply is the best horse in the race. She has two wins from three starts at the 1200m and the fact she comes from a Heavy 8 to a Good 4 should only benefit her chances of winning. Coquille clearly looks like one of the better bets of the day.

BEST VALUE AT BALLARAT: ROCK DEE JAY

Henry Dwyer & Mitchell Aitken combine with last start Avoca runner-up Rock Dee Jay who looked to be screaming out for the 1400m having hit the line strongly over 1300m on March 26. Having settled midfield with cover, the three-year-old gelding managed to storm home late and only just missed. From barrier eight, look for Aitken to give the Awesome Rock gelding a similar run on Tuesday and if he replicates a similar turn of foot, Rock Dee Jay looks to produce a great turn of foot. We’re more than happy to take the $8.50 on offer from Unibet.
