Ballarat Turf Club is set host an eight-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian tipping expert has found a couple of best bets to go with his quaddie selections. The track is rated a Good 4, whilst the rail comes out 3m having been in the true when we raced here on February 8. Sunday’s meeting is scheduled to get underway at 12:45pm AEDT.
Best Best at Ballarat – Jester
The Chris Waller-trained Jester will look to build on his debut run when he steps out in the opener over 1200m. The three-year-old Star Witness gelding was desperately held up for a run at Pakenham on February 3 but flashed home to be beaten by the narrowest of margins. Craig Williams sticks on board, and we are certain he will want to make amends for a troublesome debut for Jester. With a genuinely run 1200m affair expected, the race looks set up for someone like Jester to finish over the top of some potentially vulnerable leaders. We are more than happy to take the $2.50 quote on offer from Sportsbet.
Next Best at Ballarat – Sonofthebeast
The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Sonofthebeast has begun his career in fine form with three minor placings from as many starts and looks one of the better bets on Sunday. The three-year-old bay gelding has led the field up in all three starts but keeps finding one better in the shadows of the winning post. From barrier one, he looks to be the natural leader in a race where a majority of his rivals want to take a sit and run on. If he gains an uncontested lead out in front, then this son of Maurice has enough ability to take out a maiden affair like this. Outside of Rivinado and Tavabeel, this looks to be a shallow maiden and Sonofthebeast should be too good for this lot.
Best Value at Ballarat – Perfect Darling
The Tom Dabernig-trained Perfect Darling is looking to bring up a hat-trick of wins to begin this campaign, having broken his maiden two starts back at Geelong before winning impressively at Warrnambool on February 3. The three-year-old filly has settled up on speed in both of her runs this campaign and it has seemingly worked wonders. She was strong through the line last time out, and despite the step into BM64 from BM58 grade, the So You Think filly looks a nice bet at a double-figure quote. With Hannah Edgley on board and claiming 2kg, Perfect Darling goes around with just 56.5kg on her back and should prove too speedy for this field. With a significant weight advantage on her side, the $10 on offer from Neds looks too good to ignore.
