With a typical winter’s day forecast, each runner will get their chance if they are good enough. Friday’s meeting is set to commence at 12:55pm AEST.
Best Bet at Ballarat – Hurtle
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Hurtle has shown to be a genuine track specialist and is set to return to the Ballarat Synthetic 1000m. The four-year-old gelding was last seen finishing midfield at Mildura on July 22, a day where he simply did not settle in the running and was beaten with 200m to go. He has two wins from as many starts on the synthetic and managed to win at the track and trip two starts back when returning from a spell. With form behind the progressive Rose Quartz during the spring and considering it is always advantageous to be up on speed on the synthetic, everything just lines up perfectly for Hurtle. With Celine Gaudray claiming 1.5kg, the Capitalist gelding goes around with 59kg on his back and should ultimately prove too hard to run down.

Next Best at Ballarat – Ronay
From one track specialist to another, the marvel that is Ronay from the Patrick Payne yard will be looking to add a remarkable 10th win to her name on the Ballarat synthetic. With a record of 28: 9-8-3 at the track, there is no doubt she will handle the conditions in front of her on Friday. She had to tough it out the hard way last time out in BM58 when travelling three wide up on speed, but really knuckled down inside the final 100m to rack up another win. Despite the step back into BM64 company this time round, this looks a race well within her reach based on current form, considering she has a win and four runner-up efforts to her name in her last five starts.

Best Value at Ballarat – Spirit Maker
This might be a bit of a throw at the stumps, but if the Jason Warren-trained Spirit Maker takes natural improvement from her first two runs, she can give this a shake at a nice price. The three-year-old filly showed enough last time out on the Pakenham Synthetic over 1000m on August 8 when beaten 1.7 lengths in her fourth-placed effort. From barrier seven, if Damien Thornton can have the Spirt of Boom filly settled midfield with cover, Spirit Maker showed a decent enough turn of foot last time out to suggest she is capable of taking out a maiden like this. With a bit of luck, online betting sites can be generous with a nice price on offer.
