The Synthetic season is well and truly underway as we return to the Ballarat Turf Club on Monday afternoon where eight races are set down for judgement. If last Monday’s meeting was anything to go by, the surface is set to advantage those up on speed, with only breakneck speeds bringing backmarkers into races. Perfect conditions are forecast to greet us for the meeting getting underway at 1pm AEST.
Best Bet at Ballarat – Autumn Rose
Our best bet of the day comes up in the second leg of the quaddie when John McArdle and Jamie Mott combine with Autumn Rose. Since her dominant maiden win at Geelong three runs back, the three-year-old filly has hardly set the world on fire, but is sure to appreciate the Synthetic at Ballarat. She looks to be a genuine front runner which is certainly no disadvantage on this surface and from the wide barrier we expect she will take up the running. Considering she is now deep into her campaign, we anticipate the 62kg should not be an issue and if she can make this a genuinely run 1400m event, she should prove hard to run down. We’re hoping this is an easy double up, with $2 available with online betting sites.

Next Best at Ballarat – Extreme Emotion
The Kym Hahn-trained Extreme Emotion comes to the Ballarat 1200m in a bid to break her maiden status at start seven. The three-year-old filly has placed five times from her six starts and looks like she will enjoy getting on to the Ballarat Synthetic on Monday. The Extreme Choice filly looks set to settle in the box seat throughout from the low draw and if the on-pace bias is still relevant this week, the race should be set up perfectly for her to pounce under Jake Noonan. With the likes of Gulf Of Finland and Cambridge Gulf set to make this a genuine six furlong event, the race looks well within Extreme Emotion’s grasp as she can peel of their backs and ultimately prove too hard to hold out. The $3.40 with online bookmakers seems too hard to ignore.

Best Value at Ballarat – Secret Hero
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we are hoping track and distance specialist Secret Hero can build on his impressive record here. With a record of 5: 2-2-0 at the Ballarat Synthetic 1200m, the Von Costa de Hero gelding will be looking for a massive improvement from his last start eighth at the track last week. He wasn’t fully tested when first-up having been held up for a run when it mattered most, but with better luck this time around, we’re happy to side with Secret Hero. From barrier three, Tatum Bull should be allowed to stalk the speed throughout and with a strong turn of foot, he looks hard to hold out at a nice each-way price.
