What Ballarat Races
Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Rd, Miners Rest VIC 3352
When Monday, June 6, 2022
First Race 1pm AEST

Another week of racing in Victoria gets underway at Ballarat Turf Club with the synthetic track scheduled to host an eight-race card. In previous meeting’s it has been advantageous to be close to the speed throughout and with perfect conditions for racing forecast, it may be the same on Monday once again.

The first race is set to go at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat – Ronay

Our best bet comes up in the third leg of the quaddie as the Patrick Payne-trained Ronay pushes to bring up consecutive victories at the Ballarat 1200m. The six-year-old mare is a genuine synthetic specialist win eight times and placing on seven other occasions from 23 starts on the surface. With Maddi Price sticking on board and claiming 4kg, the Delago Deluxe mare will go around with just 59.5kg on her back, which will only aid her chances of repeating her last start win. From barrier four, we expect Ronay will be close to the speed throughout and when asked for an effort, we expect she will put away her rivals with relative ease. The $4.60 with online betting sites looks to be the wrong price and one we are willing to load into.

Next Best at Ballarat – My Boy Birmingham

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained My Boy Birmingham returns to the Ballarat Synthetic, a track he is a true specialist on. With a career record of 4: 3-1-0, the four-year-old gelding is set to take a power of beating as he steps back from a Saturday metro race at Morphettville. The Unencumbered gelding was forced to do it tough last time out, when four wide at times during his midfield finish. In a race that looks bereft of early speed, we are anticipating Dean Holland will look to roll his mount to the front, throw out the anchors and make this a sprint to the finish line. If the pair is afforded that luxury, My Boy Birmingham simply looks a class above this lot and will take a power of gunning down.

Best Value at Ballarat – Vested Interest

The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Vested Interest broke through for his maiden victory on the Pakenham synthetic when going stride for stride for The Cassini and getting the job done by the barest of margins. From barrier seven, look for Robbie Downey to have the All Too Hard gelding settled outside the leader or in the one-one at worst, much the same as he did last time out. As long as he does not get trapped wide, then we expect Vested Interest, with winning form behind him will prove too hard to hold out at a nice price. We’re happy to take the $8.50 on offer from Unibet.
