The Bairnsdale Racing Club plays hosts to a competitive eight-race program on Sunday where the Bairnsdale Cup is the headline act on the card. With overcast conditions forecast across the weekend, we expect to remain on a Good 4 throughout the card for the club’s marquee meeting, while the rail will stick in the true position throughout. Bairnsdale Cup Day commences at 1pm AEDT.
Bairnsdale Cup Top Tip – Spanish Tides
The Bairnsdale Cup has attracted a competitive field of 13 on Sunday and we’re hoping second-up from a spell, Luke Oliver’s Spanish Tides can strike. The six-year-old mare has a bombproof record when second-up, having won three times from as many starts. Completely forget her fresh run in the Echuca Cup as she has never finished in the top three when resuming, but she drastically improves with a run under her belt. Jake Noonan will have her settled towards the rear of the field throughout the race, but with the likes of Delightful Journey, Not Usual Glorious and Sharper set to make this a genuinely run 1600m event, she is going to take some holding out. She clearly has the best finishing sprint in the race and if she is close enough 300m out from home, Spanish Tides looks hard to hold out.

Best Bet at Bairnsdale – The Great Seal
Allan & Joseph Williams will be hoping it is third time lucky for The Great Seal on Sunday as the three-year-old gelding looks to break his maiden. The son of Starspangledbanner has been building towards a win in his first two runs this campaign in arguably stronger maidens at Pakenham and gets no better chance to pick up his first win than what he does on the weekend. From barrier 13, Brian Higgins will need a touch of luck to find cover aboard this bloke, but if he lands the one-one of three back in the moving line, the race may be over within the first 300m. Without a doubt he is the horse with the most upside in this race, with most of his rivals already having their fair chance at breaking their maidens. All he needs is a touch of luck and if he reproduces what we have seen so far, it should be more than good enough for The Great Seal to claim victory.

Best Value at Bairnsdale – Lani Bang Bang
Lani Bang Bang was a smart winner in a similar 0-58 at Edenhope on March 11 and we expect she will bring up a second win in as many starts on Sunday. The six-year-old mare settled up on speed on that day over 1000m and looked to relish a genuine tempo over the 1000m scamper. She hit the lead on the home turn and despite being pressured, the six-year-old mare quickened nicely and put her rivals away with distain in the final 200m. She draws to be up on speed once again from barrier one and if Daniel Stackhouse can have her on the heels of the leaders throughout, a similar turn of foot should see her dominate her rivals once more.
