Autumn Glow returned to racing with an emphatic win in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day, extending her unbeaten streak to four for the powerhouse Chris Waller-James McDonald combination.

The glamour filly was asked to dig deep under a determined ride from McDonald, stalking a hot speed set by Flying For Fun before unleashing her class over the final 200m to overhaul Enriched ($14) and prove she’s right back on track, with the top online bookmakers having her priced as a $1.80 favourite.

Enriched gave a bold sight up on the speed and held on for second, while Gangsta Granny () boxed on gamely to grab third ahead of a fast-finishing Sergeant Major ().

Trainer Chris Waller said the 1200m was short of her best but was thrilled with the way Autumn Glow fought through an awkward run to win on class alone.

“We probably asked her a little more than expected today, but it was just good to see her strong late,” Waller said.

“She’s still learning, but she’s come back in great order. The Arrowfield Sprint in three weeks looks a nice option.”

Jockey James McDonald was full of praise for the daughter of The Autumn Sun, admitting she wasn’t entirely comfortable early.

“The win was better than it looked,” McDonald said.

“I was caught in a tricky spot, three-wide for a bit, but she’s just so classy. She took no chances today – she’s very good.”

Autumn Glow remains one of the most exciting fillies in training and firmed into a $2.50 favourite with for the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) on April 12.
