Ascot is scheduled to host a bumper 10-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s West Australian horse racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail is out 11m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to commence at 12:36pm AWST (3:36pm AEDT).
Ascot Best Bet – Pure Devotion
The Grant & Alana Williams stable and William Pike go together like peas and carrots, and we are hoping the dynamic combination can get the job done here with Pure Devotion. The four-year-old So You Think mare managed to find plenty of trouble at her first-up run when having her run cut short by traffic inside the final furlong. She managed to balance up and hit the line nicely and did deserve to finish closer than the 1.78-length defeat she suffered. From barrier five, we expect Pikey to have her settled close to last, where he can then have her moving in clear air approaching the home turn. With a nice turn of foot, we anticipate Pure Devotion will be too hard to hold out this time round.
Next Best at Ascot – It’sarayday
The Listed Belgravia Stakes is the feature event on Ascot’s card, and we expect the Simon Miller-trained It’sarayday to take his record to three wins from as many starts. Having gone around as $1.14 hotpot at Northam when first-up from a spell on October 3, the three-year-old son of Winning Rupert went on to win by 2.8 lengths in impressive fashion, seemingly with plenty still left in the tank. From barrier eight, Patrick Carbery will need a bit of luck early on, but if he can find a spot midfield with cover, he should get a nice tow into the race. Armed with a nice turn of foot, we expect to see him hitting the line strongly down the centre of the track and proving too good as he makes his way through the grades.
Ascot Value Bet – There’s A Thought
Daniel Morton and Chris Parnham are set to combine with impressive last-start winner There’s A Thought, and we expect she will handle the step up to the 2150m with great aplomb. Having sustained a long run in her two-length victory at the Ascot 1800m, she looks well equipped to make the step up in trip. From barrier nine, we expect Parnham to have the So You Think mare within striking range approaching the home turn, and if she handles the rise in distance, we expect There’s A Thought to be too good here at a nice price.
