The Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes will headline a stacked nine-race program at Ascot this Saturday afternoon. With perfect spring weather forecast in the lead-up, the track is expected to remain at the Good 4 rating that was posted at acceptances. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race set to jump at 1:09pm AWST.
WA Champion Fillies Stakes tip: Ron’s Finalflutter
Several of the WA Champion Fillies Stakes runners come through the Burgess Queen Stakes on November 5, and it was the run of Ron’s Finalflutter that stood out in that race. The Daniel Morton-trained filly flew home down the middle of the track to nab second place, running through the line stronger than any of her rivals. Rising to 1600m should suit the daughter of Written Tycoon, and if Brad Parnham can settle midfield from barrier eight, watch for Ron’s Finalflutter flashing home late.

RJ Peters Stakes tip: Luvnwar
Luvnwar drifted dramatically with horse racing bookmakers before producing an outstanding finish for second place behind Super Smink in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes first-up. The Michael Grantham-trained mare settled on speed but didn’t have a clear run turning for home and had to switch tracks to the inside rail. This daughter of War Decree was a dominant winner of the Belmont Guineas over 1600m, and if she can improve off her last run, Luvnwar can go one better in the RJ Peters Stakes.

Colonel Reeves Stakes tip: Almighty Class
Almighty Class has been impressive in back-to-back victories to kick off this preparation for Mitchell Pateman and Holly Watson. In both races, the son of Playing God has settled on speed before taking over at the top of the straight to sprint clear of his rivals. If Holly Watson can push forward from barrier nine and find a position on the outside of a runner, Almighty Class can bring up a third win in a similar style.

Placid Ark Stakes tip: Mai Aloha
Mai Aloha has won two of her last three starts, most recently chasing down a tearaway leader at this track and trip. The Grant & Alana Williams-trained filly has a blistering turn of foot, and after drawing barrier 19 of 20 for the Placid Ark Stakes, she will need to produce a similar finish to play a prominent role in the finish. The $14 on offer with PlayUp is a fair price to find out if Mai Aloha can win again.

Best Bet at Ascot: Jokers Grin
Jokers Grin has only been defeated once in five career starts, and he returned from a 15-week spell with a dominant victory at this track and trip on November 2. The son of Maschino settled at the back of the field, worked to the outside of runners, and let down with a blistering turn of foot to claim victory. Patrick Carbery will have to attempt to replicate that performance after drawing barrier 14, but with even luck, Jokers Grin should be winning again.
