Ascot Racecourse will host a rare twilight meeting this Saturday, with extreme heat forecast for Saturday the nine-race program will begin at 2:28pm AWST. The track has been well irrigated over the last few days to make sure the track doesn’t get too firm, so we will most likely start the meeting in between a Soft 5 and Good 4, but the track is expected to be in the Good range for the most of the day. The rail will go back into the True position for the first time since Railway Stakes Day in November of last year.
Best Bet: A Lot Of Good Men
Our best bet of the day at Ascot will come up in the lone two-year-old event of the afternoon, where we will be siding with the impressive last start winner, A Lot Of Good Men from the Trevor Andrews yard. This son of A Lot was first-up last start over 1000m when he settled in the one-one behind the pace makers and when the leader kicked clear by two lengths, Paul Harvey pulled this colt to the outside to make his run. When in clear air and Harvey pressed the button, this colt lengthened nicely and picked up the runaway leader in the final 50m to record a comfortable maiden victory. On Saturday from barrier six, we should see this him settle in a similar position on the outside either in the one-one or one pair behind the first four upon settling. With eight of the 16 runners being on debut, we should see a strong speed and if the leaders do go quick, it should set the race up nicely for a swooper like this colt.

Next Best Bet: Seeable
After recording back-to-back wins to begin this preparation, Seeable, will be looking to complete the hattrick on Saturday when he takes on the Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1400m. The William Lewthwaite-trained runner has a very good record at the Ascot 1400m, recording two wins from two starts, as well as five wins from six attempts at 1400m throughout his career. It is clear that this guy is in career-best form, with his confidence sky-high and now he drops 4kg for this start, he looks very hard to beat once again. Natasha Faithfull will jump back aboard for her seventh ride on this guy, looking to record her fourth win. This stallion should get all the favours from barrier one and Faithfull will look to hold the rail to take up the lead, with Sockoff expected to sit outside them. If these two leaders don’t go too hard, we should see them fighting out the finish, with our guy proving too strong at the end of 1400m.

Best Value: Rulelee
The second leg of the quaddie will feature our best value play of the day, with the Susan Olive-trained Rulelee stepping up to the 1600m for the first time in her career. At her most recent start, this daughter of Universal Ruler was very good in defeat, as she was beaten by Minus Looks by just under a length in a blanket finish over 1400m on January 21. This five-year-old mare has been in good form, recording a win and two thirds at her last three starts. Lucy Warwick will stick with this girl on Saturday, after her first ride on her last start and the step out to 1600m looks to be the right call, as her rivals looked a little too sharp for her over 1400m last start. From barrier two Warwick will have the option to settle on-speed outside the leader or she can take the one-one if the leaders want to overdo it. At $13 with online bookmakers, we are more than happy to play, in what looks to be an open race.
