HorseBetting’s Western Australian form analyst presents you with his two best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for Saturday’s nine-race program at Ascot. Beautiful racing conditions are forecast, with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position for the entire course, which is sure to give every horse a chance of winning. The first of nine races is scheduled to jump at 11:48am AWST.
Best Bet at Ascot – Blow Me Out
Lucy Warwick and Brett Pope combine in the third race of the day with Blow Me Out, a four-year-old mare by Alfred Nobel. The mare was a good winner at Pinjarra on April 3, defeating subsequent winner Pennys Afield by three-tenths of a length over 1400m. Now stepping out to the mile, she can go forward and role along from barrier four, which should give herself every chance of returning to the winner’s stall.
Best Bet
Race 3 – #3 Blow Me Out (3)
4yo Mare | T: Brett Pope | J: Lucy Warwick (58.5kg)
$4.40 with Ladbrokes
Next Best at Ascot – Trade War
You won’t find many horses more consistent than Trade War in the west, so we are hopeful that he can run another cracker on Saturday. The well-named son of Trade Fair hasn’t missed the first four in eight runs this preparation, winning once, running fourth once and placing in the minor money on the six other occasions. The four-year-old was beaten by a bee’s appendage last time out when favourite with the online bookies, but it did put the writing on the wall to suggest that he is ready to win again. Chris Parnham can get this Michael Lane-trained gelding into a good position from the inside alley and lift him across the line.
Next Best
Race 4 – #4 Trade War (1)
4yo Gelding | T: Michael Lane | J: Chris Panrham (56kg)
$2.60 with Palmerbet
Best Value at Ascot – Charleton Eddie
While How’s The Serenity will take plenty of stopping, as its odds-on quote suggests, we are confident that Charleton Eddie can test the favourite at around $12 with Palmerbet. The Sean & Jake Casey-trained four-year-old won four of his first five career starts, but he hasn’t won for 13 months now. While he hasn’t won since last March, the son of Shooting To Win has contested some nice races and been reasonably competitive without setting the world on fire. This is easier than what he raced in first-up, so if apprentice Keshaw Dhurun can have the gelding in a good spot from barrier two, he should be there in the business end.
Best Value
Race 7 – #7 Charleton Eddie (2)
4yo Gelding | T: Sean & Jake Casey | J: Keshaw Dhurun (a2)(58kg)
$12 with Bet365
