HorseBetting’s Western Australian racing analyst presents his top selection in the Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), as well as his best bets and quaddie numbers for Saturday’s nine-race meeting at Ascot. Currently rated a Good 4 with the rail out 5m from the 1400m until the 300m and then 2m for the remainder, the course should play fairly evenly throughout the afternoon. Racing is set to get underway in the west at 11:54am AWST.
W.A. Sires’ Produce Stakes Best Bet – Penny On The Queen
When it comes to Western Australian two-year-old form, there is simply none better than Amelia’s Jewel form. That filly is a deadset superstar, so to have run third behind her in both the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) and Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) looks pretty bloody good for a race like this. Penny On The Queen has done exactly that; closing off her races stylishly behind Amelia’s Jewel, and she now gets to 1400m which will be ideal. Lucy Warwick has ridden the filly by Universal Ruler in all five career starts, so her retention of the ride is pleasing to see. From barrier seven, the Ashley Maley-trained galloper will land in a nice position and should prove too good for her rivals.

Ascot Best Bet – Dom To Shoot
Sean & Jake Casey saddle up the classy Dom To Shoot in a Rating 72+ Handicap on Saturday afternoon over 1600m. The son of Shooting To Win is coming of two Listed runs – a fourth and a second – so he should be extremely hard to stop back in a benchmark race, despite having to carry the top weight. The stable has elected to book apprentice jockey Keshaw Dhurun for the ride, so the 2kg claim means tht the four-year-old gelding will have only 60.5kg on his back. He will find this easier and should be able to return to the winner’s circle.

Ascot Next Best – Liwa
In the opening leg of the quaddie, Simon Miller and Patrick Carbery combine with a last-start Listed winner in Liwa. The three-year-old filly was too good for her rivals at the end of last preparation in the Listed Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at this track, defeating Flying Missile by three-quarters of a length. She won her only trial in the lead up for this comfortably over 950m at Lark Hill, while she boasts a record of one win from three starts when first-up. Despite her Listed victory coming over 1400m, Liwa is a two-time winner over 1000m, so she should be ready to fire first-up on Saturday under Carbery.

Ascot Best Value – Alien From Mars
If Chris Parnham can send us out as a winner in the last race of the day, we will be stoked. He hops aboard the Bob Turrell Jnr-trained Alien From Mars in race nine, who is looking for a third consecutive victory. Parnham has been on the six-year-old mare for both of those wins, so he certainly knows the key to her now. Last time out, the mare by War Chant settled last in the field of 11 and was able to win by half a length over 1200m, so the pair will be looking to repeat the dose on Saturday. From barrier six, it is unlikely that the mare will have too much speed early, so Parnham will ride her quietly again before getting her to the outside and finishing over the top.
