One of the race meetings in the North Island on Saturday is being held at Rotorua on a heavy track with eight races carded. The track is unlikely to improve and it is normally a horses for courses venue. The first kicks off at 11.55am (NZST)
Best Bet at Arawa Park – Kabugee
Kubugee maintained his unbeaten record fresh up when scoring narrowly but comfortably at Awapuni nearly three weeks ago on a heavy surface. He still had a lot of improvement left in him that day so to win as he did was nothing short of courageous. He doesn’t have any form over 1400 metres but has had excuses in all of those starts and that stat should be ignored. More importantly, he has won his only start on this track and revels in the wet. He is likely to travel in a handy spot from his good draw and will receive every encouragement from in form hoop Warren Kennedy. He is well placed to make it two wins on the bounce.

Next Best at Arawa Park – The Mighty Spar
One of the co-features of the day is where we find the next best bet of the day in the Mark Walker-trained The Mighty Spar who has come up with a wide draw which might actually work in his favour at this time of the day as all horses will be scouting wide anyway. He stormed home from near the rear last time out at Te Rapa and drops a further 2.5kgs for this assignment. He is back in Open grade for this, but a heavy track should bring right into contention and he also has solid form on the track which is so important around the Rotorua circuit.

Best Value at Arawa Park – Synchronize
The other feature of the day is held under WFA conditions for fillies and mares over 1400 metres with another Mark Walker trained performer being our value bet on the card. Synchronize has not had all favours in any of her past five starts since winning fresh up at Pukekohe back in December last year. She was a beaten favourite in a handy field last time out over the mile at Awapuni where once again she got held up at a vital stage and in heavy conditions it is always hard to regain any momentum. She has won her only start on this track and will be hard and fit. The 1400 metres will seem like a mile today and Synchronize is due a change of luck. Stick with her.
