First Race 1pm AEDT

Ararat hosts an eight race card as the first of two meetings in Victoria gets underway on Thursday afternoon. With near perfect conditions forecast, the track should remain as a Good 4 and with the rail in the true position we’re set for what looks to be a nice little mid-week card in Country Victoria. There is also a couple of good plays in the Ararat quaddie, which results in a skinny quaddie and hopefully a profitable day waits.

The first at Ararat will face the starter at 1pm AEDT, with the last race set to jump at 5:20pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Race 6 #2 Pueblo

David and Coral Feek will be hoping that their six-year-old gelding Pueblo can break his run of outs and break through for a win for the first time in close to 12 months at Ararat. He was sent around at Stony Creek as favourite but found the 1600m a touch too sharp for his liking after settling too far back in the running. He steps up to the 2000m for this his third up run, and from barrier one should be able to settle himself in a more prominent role this time around. He doesn’t possess a lightning turn of foot, but when asked for effort he should be too strong for this BM58 field in the second leg of the quaddie.

Next Best: Race 7 #5 Fleurmosa

Matthew Williams and Dean Yendall will look to combine with Fleurmosa who has run a hattrick of minor placings in her three runs this campaign, including consecutive runner up performances at Penshurst and then Terang when only beaten by a half length and a neck respectively. Based on her last run at Terang, she should be winning here at Ararat in the third leg of the quaddie as she never settled any better than three wide with no cover, and kept finding the line before finding one better late on in the piece. From barrier four she should have no issues in getting cover this time around, and with a genuine tempo expected, she should be too strong in the penultimate race on the card.

Best Value: Race 5 #2 Cape Mount

In the first leg of the Ararat quaddie, we’re siding with the Michael Cornish & Donna Gaskin trained Cape Mount, who finished third at his first up run this campaign at Echuca over the 1400m. In a small field of seven for this second up assignment over the mile, he’ll look to make every post a winner as there doesn’t look to be much early pace involved and he should get a quiet time out in front. If he can give a kick at the top of the straight he could have too much left in the tank for the backmarkers to catch him. Cape Mount should be at some generous odds at the top racing bookmakers.
