The Chris Waller-trained mare Another Dollar continued her return to form with an upset in the 2020 Gosford Gold Cup at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
The five-year-old daughter of Ocean Park was given a lovely run, cuddled by jockey Glen Boss who was happy to ride her quiet just off the pace in about sixth in the Listed $200,000 Gosford Gold Cup (2000m).
The staying showdown was moved from Gosford to the city due to COVID-19 as was Another Dollar’s early lead-up run when she caught the eye finishing third at Rosehill in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup (1500m).
Carrying just 54kg again today, the former Queensland Oaks runner-up struck form and was too good for her rivals relishing the step-up to 2000m with the pressure on up front.
Ilwendo led the Gosford Gold Cup field around from predicted front runner Gresyful Glamour having held out the mare for the lead in an attempt to go from barrier to box.
The pacemaker turned it into a genuine staying contest and was very brave bringing the on-pace runners undone, but he was a sitting shot late for the fast-finishing Another Dollar.
One the straight, Boss moved up on the outside aboard the eventual Gosford Gold Cup winner giving chase and saluting on the line by a long head, while Godolphin’s Best Of Days battled on well for third.
“She’s been around the money in some really good races throughout her career,” Waller said after the race.
“She looked to have lost her way a little bit…good to see Bossy getting her home today.
“I think she’s in the mares’ sale coming up soon…the price tag might be a little bit better for the owners now.
“It was a good race to watch.
“Thanks for the Gosford Club for putting the race on and allowing it to happen.”
