Amron Boy ‘Thunders’ into Sydney

After charging into the exclusive sub-29 seconds Sandown Park club, airborne sprinter Amron Boy heads to Sydney for Saturday night’s heats of the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder (520m) at the peak of his prodigious powers.

Amron Boy headlines a high class Victorian contingent contesting heats of the Paws Of Thunder and G2 Summer Distance Plate (720m) on Saturday and G1 National Derby and G1 National Futurity Friday night.

Trained by Brooke Ennis, Amron Boy looks perfectly placed in box 1 in the first of five Paws Of Thunder heats, where he dominates Sportsbet’s market at $1.25.

The son of 2016 Paws finalist Zambora Brockie boasts a near-faultless six from seven record off ‘the red’, most recently romping to a scintillating 28.999sec victory at Sandown last Thursday night.

WATCH: “Look at him go!” AMRON BOY (B1) became only the 11th sprinter to break 29 seconds over Sandown Park’s 515m course when stopping the clock at 28.999sec last Thursday night.

His only defeat from the rails alley came when beaten a head by Wow She’s Fast in the Sportsbet Showdown ‘match race’ on Melbourne Cup night.

Amron Boy’s scorching last start Sandown romp continued his spectacular form from the Dream Chasers Festival, during which he won the G1 Silver Chief in near-record time and ran agonisingly close seconds in The Phoenix and a Melbourne Cup heat.

“I don’t think the track was lightning either last Thursday; but we know he can run ridiculous times,” co-trainer Jamie Ennis said.

“He’s just matured. He’s got to that age – two and a half – and hit his peak.

“It looks a good draw on Saturday, with Yuko Girl, which uses a bit of the track, in box 2.

“I gave him some down-time after The Phoenix, so I’d expect him to improve for the final if he qualifies.”

Saturday night’s opening Paws heat – race 5 at 7.33pm – will be Amron Boy’s second appearance at Wentworth Park.

He finished out of the placings at his only race start at Wentworth Park, when a close fourth, from an unsuitable box eight draw, in a Million Dollar Chase city qualifier last September.

Only three Vics will line up in the five Paws heats, with Amron Boy joined by Brendan Pursell’s pair McInerney and Who Told Shorty.

McInerney returns to Wentworth Park for the first time since becoming the first Victorian to win the Million Dollar Chase last September.

Also on Saturday, two Victorian stayers – First Picked and Osprey Storm – will tackle the two G2 Summer Distance heats (720m), with both drawing box 1.
