Cambridge Stud first-season sire Almanzor has continued his strong early run after siring his seventh individual southern hemisphere-bred winner when Islero won the 2YO Maiden Plate (1200m) at Murtoa.
The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained gelding proved too strong at the finish, winning by a neck ahead of fellow Kiwi-bred Musgrave with Simply Xtravagant a further three lengths back in third.
Bred by Cambridge Stud, he was a $70,000 buy for Blue Sky Bloodstock and Freedman
Racing as a yearling in Melbourne.
Almanzor, the sire of Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) winner Dynastic, has had 20 individual southern hemisphere-bred runners to date. He will stand for a fee of NZ$50,000 + GST this coming breeding season.
