It’s the third meeting in the Red Centre in as many weeks, and final acceptors stack up well, with 39 set to face the starter on Saturday. It should be a competitive day of racing with plenty of chances in all five races. It will be a dry dirt surface at Pioneer Park with only 4.6mm of rain falling since September 9. It’s not going to be easy for horse and rider because although an easterly breeze has been forecasted, it will be sunny with a top temperature of 35C. The rail will be in the true position.
BEST BET: Omoplata
Omoplata is eyeing three straight wins. Returning after a long spell, the six-year-old gelding was slow out of gate one before hitting the front at the 900m and forging away to crush his rivals by seven lengths over 1200m (0-58) on September 15. The son of More Than Ready was again slow out of gate two a fortnight ago but shared second place by the 800m before edging clear at the 400m to seal victory by three lengths over 1200m (BM54). He carries an extra 2kg, but is clearly in red hot form.

NEXT BEST BET: Valley Prince
After battling for the early lead two weeks ago in a five-horse field over 1200m (0-64), Valley Prince got to a narrow lead passing the 800m and continued to hold sway before bursting clear in the home straight to win by 4.8 lengths. It’s once again a five-horse field on Saturday, and despite stepping up in grade, Valley Prince is aiming for three straight wins. The seven-year-old gelding was a narrow first-up winner over 1200m (0-58) on September 8 after kicking well clear in the home straight.

NEXT BEST AGAIN: Barocco Bar
Barocco Bar headed to the paddock after posting a courageous win in the Tennant Creek Cup (1600m) in May. Returning to action on September 15 over 1400m (BM54) from gate one with 61.5kg on his back and with Sonja Logan controlling the tempo out in front, the five-year-old gelding held on to post a narrow win. Boasting two wins and three minor placings over 1400m at Pioneer Park, the son of Epaulette was an early $4 quote with horse racing bookmakers. He has once again drawn the inside barrier, and that could be a significant advantage.
Next Best Again
Race 5 – #1 Barocco Bar (1)
5yo Gelding | T: Dan Morgan | J: Sonja Logan (60kg)
