Albury Racing Club is the destination for country racing on Friday afternoon, with a stacked eight-part program lined up for Albury Gold Cup (2000m) Day. The $200,000 feature has attracted a quality field of 14, with the winner guaranteed a spot in the Big Dance (1600m) later in the year.

Alysha Collett will be dragging back towards the back-half of the field from stall 11, however, with a genuine tempo engaged in this event, it should allow Medatsu to be surging down the centre of the course at a good price with horse racing bookmakers.

Conchiero claimed a dominant 1.4-legnth victory at Warwick Farm on February 19 and appears poised to go on with the job third-up in the campaign. The Pierata gelding beat home four subsequent winners on that occasion, suggesting the from has held up significantly well as the untapped three-year-old tackles the BM74 Albury Guineas. The 61kg on his back should be offset by a positive ride by Rachel King from stall two, and provided he can boot clear similarly to his latest outing, Conchiero must be considered the one to beat.

It’s hard to believe Monte Veebee is still a maiden heading into this preparation after being competitive against three-time Group 1 winning filly Lady Shenandoah in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty (1400m). The newly gelded son of Snitzel should get every chance to make a statement first-up from a 24-week spell, with the three-year-old supreme placed in this maiden contest. He draws gate two to gain the gun run in transit, and although the 1175m may be short of his best trip, Monte Veebee should simply prove too classy for this lot.
