A strong field of 14 three-year-old colts and geldings have accepted for Saturday’s Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).
Godolphin’s Aft Cabin has opened a $2.90 favourite with online bookmakers in a bid to claim his maiden Group 1 and will be looking to bounce back from a poor showing in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes when finishing fifth.
James McDonald will jump back on board the Astern colt and will need to be at his best, with the favourite drawing awkwardly out in barrier 10.
Chris Waller will be hopeful Osipenko can claim Group 1 glory having gone down narrowly in the Caulfield Guineas during the spring.
Nash Rawiller sticks on board the Pierro colt, and from barrier four, Osipenko looks set to gain every favour in running and at $4 looks to be the biggest danger to the favourite.
Having gone down by the barest of margins in the Hobartville Stakes, John O’Shea’s Zou Tiger sits on the third line of betting for Saturday’s Group 1 with online betting sites marking him a $6 chance, despite drawing perfectly in barrier six.
Saturday’s Group 1 also sees the return of the Victoria Derby winner from the spring, with Manzoice set to grace the racetrack for the first time since his success in the blue-ribband event.
Following acceptances, Ciaron Maher & David Eustace opted to scratch Holymanz and The Fortune Teller, with both drawing more favourably in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington.
Victory in this race guarantees entry into both the Australian Derby and the Doncaster Mile, making the $1 million on offer even more enticing.
