Country racing heads to Albury Racing Club on Thursday afternoon, where the $200,000 Albury Gold Cup (2000m) headlines a competitive seven-part program. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and with nothing but sunny skies forecast leading into race-day, participants can expect a rock-hard Good 4 surface. 2025 Albury Gold Cup Day is set to commence at 1:35pm AEST.
Albury Gold Cup Tip: Medatsu
Medatsu didn’t go a yard on the Heavy surface at Rosehill on April 1 and warrants forgiving when beaten 6.7 lengths by Ceolwulf in the Group 2 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m). He was much better two starts back at Randwick on March 1, accelerating impressively behind the likes of Kings Valley and Birdman, with the son of Stephanos much better suited to racing on top of the ground. Alysha Collett will be forced to drag back from stall 13; however, with Medatsu presenting with the best turn-of-speed in what appears to be a genuinely run contest, expect this guy to be flashing over the top at a good price with horse racing bookmakers.

Best Bet at Albury: Montee Veebee
Montee Veebee was luckless first-up on the Kensington circuit at Randwick on March 26 and should’ve made things interesting when attempting to get clear behind Fleeting Spirit. The newly gelded three-year-old was strung up badly from the 300m to 200m pole and burst through the line once seeing daylight. Stepping back to the 1175m shouldn’t be an issue for the son of Snitzel, and with the blinkers going on for the first time in this maiden contest, there’s real intent about Montee Veebee shirking the maiden tag.

Next Best at Albury: One Hard Lady
The Donna Scott-trained One Hard Lady has dominated in back-to-back starts and appears poised to add a hat-trick of wins in her debut campaign. She was sensational debuting at this course and distance on March 20 and backed it up with a gritty performance at Gundagai on April 6, sitting three-and-four wide without cover before exploding in the final furlong. She appears to be better than country grade, and with Blaike McDougall set to take luck out of the equation from barrier three, expect One Hard Lady to be far too classy for this lot.
