Promising filly Scenic Point kept her perfect record intact with a sharp win in Saturday’s Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, confirming her black-type potential just two starts into her career.

Trained by the Hayes team of Ben, Will and JD, the Written Tycoon filly was sent out as a warm favourite and lived up to expectations despite giving her rivals a head start.

After stepping a touch slow from the barriers, jockey Daniel Stackhouse allowed her to settle at the rear of the small field before plotting a wide run around the bend.

With clean air from the 400m, Scenic Point balanced up and let down powerfully.

Still green in the straight, she shifted about under hands and heels riding but showed clear class as she surged past her rivals to win by a length as the $1.40 favourite with the top horse racing bookmakers.

“She’s still got plenty to learn,” Stackhouse said.

“But the feel she gives you is unbelievable. She relaxed so well early, and when I asked her, she just switched on. The good ones do that.”

Aleppo Pine ($3.90) was promoted to second after a protest was upheld against Mednyi, who shifted out and caused interference in the straight. But neither could match Scenic Point’s finishing burst.

Co-trainer Will Hayes praised both horse and rider for handling the tricky race shape.

“She got a bit worked up before the race, which was very different to Pakenham,” he said.

“But what she showed today was all raw ability. Stacky gave her a patient ride and got her into the clear when it mattered. She’s got stakes class and plenty of upside.”

The win delivers Scenic Point her first stakes success at just start number two, taking her earnings to $127,750.

While a Sydney raid remains a live option, the Hayes stable may opt to give her a break and target bigger spring goals.

“She’s an exciting filly,” Hayes said.

“It’s great to get a stakes win for Mrs Wanless and these colours. There’s definitely a lot more to come.”
