The first of five Group 1 races set to feature on the Rosehill card this Saturday afternoon will be the Ranvet Stakes (2000m), which has drawn a field of seven runners.
Cox Plate winner Via Sistina (-285.71) headlines the field and has opened as an odds-on favourite with horse racing bookmakers.
The Chris Waller-trained mare will seek to claim back-to-back wins in the Ranvet Stakes after she defeated Place Du Carrousel by 1.2 lengths in last year’s edition.
Following her narrow victory over stablemate Fangirl in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes last start, it is expected that the star mare will be at peak fitness for her first crack at 2000m since her VRC Champions Stakes win in November.
Outside of Via Sistina, there are two runners that create intrigue, with the William Haggas-trained runner Al Mubhir (+500) being one of them, who brings different formlines from Europe and has been kept safe in the early betting markets with BlondeBet.
The son of Frankel was last seen finishing third in the Listed Robin Hood Stakes at Nottingham in England on October 31, and he is yet to race at Group 1 level throughout his 23-start career.
The other horse is another of Chris Waller’s imports, Full Count Felicia (+700), who will be making her Australian debut on Saturday afternoon.
The daughter of War Front raced in North America to start her career before being sent to Australia, and her most recent run was in the Group 1 Breeders Cup (Fillies & Mares) at Del Mar.
Out of the other four runners, Fawkner Park (+1400) appears to be the only other chance after he flew home late in the Verry Elleegant Stakes to finish fourth, only beaten 1.58 lengths by Via Sistina.
The Ranvet Stakes is slated as race five at Rosehill and is scheduled to jump at 2:50pm AEDT.
