Caulfield hosts a massive 10-race card this Saturday for Victorian Owners and Breeders Race Day. With a scorching top of 37 degrees forecast, an early start may be on the cards; regardless, the track will begin as a Good 4 and become a Good 3 at some point. The rail will be out 6m for the entire circuit, with the first race scheduled to jump at 12:15pm AEDT.
The Showdown Tip: Mcgaw
Mcgaw could not have done much more when winning his debut at Pakenham. In the small field of seven, the I Am Immortal progeny rounded up his rivals from the rear of the field and put 3.5 lengths on them over 1100m. The extra 100m in The Showdown (1200m) should suit him perfectly, and considering they will not go slowly out in front with such a lucrative payday on offer, the $1 million feature sets up perfectly for Mcgaw to thunder home late.
The Showdown
Race 8 – #5 Mcgaw (13)
2yo Gelding | T: Emma-Lee & David Browne | J: Damian Lane (58kg)
Peter Young Stakes Tip: Zardozi
The 2025 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) shapes as a race in two between Pride Of Jenni and Zardozi, but with race fitness on her side, the latter gets the verdict. Zardozi will only get better with racing this campaign, and the way she finished off over 1600m in the Blamey Stakes last time out suggests a win is near. Pride Of Jenni will look to run this at a breakneck tempo, but Zardozi has plenty of staying credentials and will be hard to hold out if she is within striking distance at the home turn.
Peter Young Stakes
Race 6 – #6 Zardozi (2)
4yo Mare | T: James Cummings | J: Jamie Melham (57kg)
Best Bet at Caulfield: Bit Of Shoosh
Bit Of Shoosh disposed of his rivals by 5.5 lengths on debut in what was Jamie Melham’s only ride at Kyneton on February 27. The son of Shamus Award was forced to travel wide without cover, and the way he ran clear of his rivals over 1454m suggests he is blessed with a fair bit of talent. Melham will have him settled with cover from barrier four, and barring any bad luck in the home straight, there’s no reason Bit Of Shoosh cannot handle the step up in class.

Race 5 – #6 Bit Of Shoosh (4)
3yo Gelding | T: Ben, Will & JD Hayes | J: Jamie Melham (58kg)
Next Best at Caulfield: She’s Got Pizzazz
She’s Got Pizzazz found the 1000m down the Flemington straight a touch too sharp when resuming, but up to the 1200m and back around the corner looks the right setup. The Zoustar filly was a 1400m Listed winner at this track before heading for a spell, so she will handle the occasion with no issue. Out of barrier five, Craig Williams will look to have her in clear air approaching the 200m mark, and with a strong finish, She’s Got Pizzazz looks hard to hold out.
Next Best
Race 7 – #3 She’s Got Pizzazz (5)
3yo Filly | T: Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman | J: Craig Williams (57kg)
Best Value at Caulfield: Mostly Cloudy
If Mostly Cloudy is anywhere near his best, he is well worth an each-way ticket in the opener. The six-year-old gelding takes on $1.50 favourite Revelare, who is set to tackle 2400m for the first time, while this bloke is already a winner up to 3300m overseas. He wasn’t beaten by much in the Wangaratta Cup (2000m) first-up since his Melbourne Cup run, and with a 2.5kg weight drop and a strong turn of foot for a stayer, punters could do worse than take the $11 on offer with top racing bookmakers.
Best Value
Race 1 – #2 Mostly Cloudy (5)
6yo Gelding | T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young | J: Ethan Brown (57.5kg)
