Moonee Valley will host an action-packed eight-race card on Friday evening, with the first of those races scheduled to jump at 6:15pm AEDT. The track is expected to remain in the Good 4 rating that was posted at acceptances due to warm weather being forecast on Friday. The rail will be in the +5m position for the entire circuit.

Jamie Melham made the trip to Kyneton for one ride aboard Albertville first-up, when the Clinton McDonald-trained gelding proved too good for his rivals as a well-backed favourite with horse racing bookmakers. The son of Ilovethiscity settled outside the leader and took over at the 200m mark before sprinting clear to record an impressive one-length win. From barrier one, Melham can push forward, lead the field up to the home turn, and give a strong kick to run away with another victory.

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Stage ‘N’ Screen
Stage ‘N’ Screen will return from a 15-week spell coming off an encouraging first racing preparation that ended with a ninth-place finish in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m). The Mark Walker-trained filly has jumped out and trialled well, finishing in the placings on both occasions without being asked to do too much in the concluding stages. With the aid of Logan Bates 3kg claim and the ace barrier, Stage ‘N’ Screen can settle in the first three and, with even luck, prove too good for her rivals late.

Best Value at Moonee Valley: Merrigold
After finishing in between two very talented mares at Sandown last start, Merrigold will drop back in grade and attempt to record her third victory from six starts this preparation. The John Sadler-trained mare settled behind the speed and followed the eventual winner into the home straight, and without being disgraced, couldn’t go with her in the concluding stages. If Hannah Edgley can settle Merrigold in a similar position from barrier eight, she will go one better on Friday night.
