The Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) is next on the agenda for Goldrush Guru following the colt’s strong showing in the Australian Guineas on Saturday.
The winner of last spring’s Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) powered home to finish third behind Feroce and Savaglee, and is now set to step up in distance.
“I thought he performed quite well,” trainer Andrew Gluyas told Racing.com about the Flemington performance.
“We’re excited for him moving up in distance, but yesterday’s run was excellent and sets the tone for the next few runs.
“He was very competitive, he just sort of had the door shut on him at the top of the straight as he was trying to angle off the eventual winner, and he hit the line super.”
The Adelaide-based trainer confirmed the focus will now shift to Sydney targets, with the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 5 also in his sights.
“We’ll take him to the Rosehill Guineas,” he said. “He was good this morning. I’m quite happy with the way he recovered.”
Goldrush Guru is currently a $6 chance for the Rosehill Guineas with horse racing betting sites.
