The Angus Armanasco Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-old fillies, run over 1400m under set weights and penalty conditions
Conducted by the Melbourne Racing Club, the Angus Armanasco Stakes is a key feature on the Blue Diamond Stakes program at Caulfield.
First held in 1976 as the Tranquil Star Stakes, it became the Angus Armanasco Stakes in 1996, honouring the Hall of Fame trainer.
The Angus Armanasco Stakes was initially ran over 1600m, shifting to 1400m in 1984, reverting to 1600m from 1998 to 2010, and settling back to 1400m from 2011.
Worth $300,000 in 2025, the Angus Armanasco Stakes serves as a lead-up to the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m).
Six fillies have completed the Angus Armanasco–Kewney double, including Northwood Plume (1995) and Special Harmony (2004).

Sassy Boom ($7.50) only recorded her second career victory at Sale six days prior, but after such a strong performance, Danny O’Brien made the right call to back her up in the Group 3 Angus Armanasco Stakes and the filly landed the spoils. Blake Shinn was quick to notice the early track pattern after the winners of races one and two came from inside the first two upon settling, so when the daughter of Spirit Of Boom came around the home turn under a hold, it was always going to be hard to run her down. The race favourites were unlucky, as Serasana ($4.60) was posted three-wide for the entire trip and did well to hold onto third place, while Autumn Angel ($4.40) settled near last and didn’t make much of an impression in the concluding stages. Pure Paradise ($7.50) made ground along the rail, in what looks to be the place to be early on, but So Glamorous ($5.50) was the best of the swoopers out wide and ran home strong into second place.

Shuffle Dancer edged out Royal Merchant in the concluding stages of the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes to claim her first black-type victory of her career, after making the jump from a Benchmark 70 Handicap at Moonee Valley at her last start to a Group 2 at Sandown. Royal Merchant led the field for 1350m of the 1400m event, but Shuffle Dancer, the bookies favourite, under the urgings of Ben Melham ran over the top of her late to score an impressive victory by just over a long neck on the line. The I Am Invincible filly didn’t have all the favours in the running as she was posted wide for most of the trip and had to make a sustained run out four-wide on the home turn before powering home to get the win.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Lavish Girl made the most of a good start to lead all the way in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. The Xtravagant filly controlled the race early, and then was able to hug the rail and kick away from the rest of the field to score by a 1.25 lengths for jockey Ben Melham. Race favourite, Argentia, had a nice run in behind Lavish Girl, but after bullocking her way clear at the top of the straight, she couldn’t reel in the all-the-way leader.
