Country racing returns to Port Macquarie on Friday afternoon, with a bumper nine-part program set for decision. The Port Macquarie Cup (2000m) headlines the action, with a field of 11 looking to book their ticket to the Big Dance (1600m) on the first Tuesday of November. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and although the track is rated a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances, the drying conditions should mean an upgrade into the Good range for race-day. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 12:35pm local time.
Port Macquarie Cup Tip: Raf Attack
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Raf Attack looks superbly placed in the 2024 Port Macquarie Cup. The son of Satano Aladdin is rock-hard fit heading into start five of the campaign and showed tactical versatility when leading at Rosehill on September 28, and despite being defeated by 1.5 lengths by Firestorm, he wasn’t beaten far by Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) placegetter, Unusual Legacy. He gets a 5kg weight swing on his key rivals at the top of the page, and with gate three to aid Raf Attack and Rachel King on their journey, this guy will take plenty of chasing in the $200,000 feature.

Phenom returns after a 198-day spell and looks ready for first-up assault on the back of two strong barrier trials. The daughter of Zoustar hasn’t been asked to do much in her work, cruising through the wire on both occasions, suggesting the three-year-old filly still had plenty left in the tank. Rachel King will have work to do slotting in for cover from barrier 14, but provided she lands in an economical position in transit, Phenom should have this lot covered.

Karen & Madeline Owen combine with Get Some Fun as she searches for back-to-back wins. The filly by Wandjina couldn’t have been more impressive in her second-up victory, dispatching her rivals by 4.2 lengths at this course on September 29. She gets every chance to lead every step of the way once again, and although she could be stopping at the end of 1200m, Get Some Fun should last at a good price with horse racing bookmakers.
