What Warwick Farm Races

When Wednesday, September 4, 2024
First Race 1:25pm AEST

Metro racing returns to Warwick Farm on Wednesday afternoon, with a quickfire seven-part program set for decision. The rail is out +3m for the entire circuit, and with nothing but sunny skies forecast in the lead-up, punters should be assured of a genuine Good 4 surface. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 1.25pm local time.

Best Bet at Warwick Farm: Campaldino

Campaldino was severely hampered on Australian debut at this track on August 21 and should have finished closer than 2.8 lengths off the winner. The New Zealand import was making strong inroads from the rear of the field, but All In The Mind stopped his momentum when trying to get clear. Punters should be willing to forgive that effort, and with the four-year-old stepping up to 2200m second-up, Campaldino should be finishing off best this time.

Next Best at Warwick Farm: Imperialist

Imperialist returns after an 80-day spell and drops back significantly in class after contesting the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at the end of last preparation. The son of Churchill was well beaten on that occasion; however, his Listed win before that indicated above-average ability. Tommy Berry takes the reins in this much weaker BM72 contest, and although he may have bigger fish to fry later in the prep, there is no reason Imperialist cannot claim victory here.

Best Value at Warwick Farm: Duvana

Duvana was set some hefty tasks in the autumn, and although he didn’t figure in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at the end of the preparation, it was a clear indication the Chris Waller team has a big opinion of this Dundeel colt. He appears ready for a first-up assault on the back of two soft barrier trials, and with Benjamin Osmond’s 3kg claim, Duvana appears perfectly placed to shirk the maiden tag at start five.
