Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive nine-race program at Doomben this Saturday afternoon, with racing set to kick off at 11:53am AEST. Although the track was rated as a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances, there is no rain in the forecast, so it is expected that the surface will improve a rating or two before raceday. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit.
Best Bet at Doomben: Avone
Avone couldn’t have been more impressive when winning by 3.5 lengths at the Sunshine Coast last start, as the Tony & Maddysen Sears-trained mare careered away from her rivals late over 1000m. This daughter of Spirit Of Boom has been running well in tougher races before her most recent win, and the drop in grade will give her more confidence ahead of her next start. If Melea Castle can hold the rail and settle in the box seat from barrier one, Avone will prove hard to hold out.

Ryan Maloney will be legged aboard Bohemian Lad for the first time in three starts as he seeks to maintain his unbeaten record (3:3-0-0) on this gelding. The David Vandkye-trained galloper has finished in the placings in two of his three previous starts but was very unlucky in his most recent run at the Sunshine Coast. From an inside barrier (4), Maloney can settle behind the speed in the one-one position, and with even luck, Bohemian Lad can return to the winners circle.

Best Value at Doomben: Hector De Maris
Following a sub-par performance on a Heavy track first-up, Hector De Maris has produced two solid runs over 1615m and 1800m in his last two starts to finish third and fourth, respectively. With Cejay Graham in the saddle on both occasions, the galloper from the Billy Healey stable has settled on speed and finished the race strongly. With further improvement expected fourth-up over 2200m, Hector De Maris gets conditions to suit and looks a great each-way play with online bookmakers.
