NSW racing heads to Greater Western Sydney on Thursday afternoon, with Hawkesbury Race Club set to host a bumper eight-part program. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and although the track is rated a Heavy 9 at the time of acceptances, the sunny skies predicted in the lead-up should allow the surface to dry out for race-day. Punters can expect a Soft track as the opening event gets underway at 12:20pm local time.
Best Bet at Hawkesbury: Captain Eagle
Captain Eagle produced a promising runner-up performance on debut at Kembla Grange on June 20. The son of Per Incanto got the perfect run in transit, stalking Madam Rupee every step of the way, getting within a half-length but unable to get over the top in the final furlong. The race-day experience should be a major benefit heading into this second-up assignment, and with Zac Lloyd taking the reins as he steps up to 1300m, watch for Captain Eagle to make strong inroads down the centre of the course when the whips are cracking.

Next Best at Hawkesbury: Barazin
Barazin should’ve won his second Australian start at Wyong on June 27, with the French import held up behind the leading pair for the entire straight. Apprentice Benjamin Osmond simply had nowhere to go aboard the son of Siyouni, with the four-year-old given a glorified barrier trial as he went through the wire under his own steam. The 2000m should be ideal third-up into the campaign, and although this guy may need more luck drawn out in barrier nine, trust Jason Collett to slot in for cover before mounting a late challenge down the centre of the track.

Best Value at Hawkesbury: Lady Extreme
While Lady Extreme was disappointing first-up at Kembla Grange on June 20, however, punters should be willing to forgive the effort. The Blake Ryan-trained mare got too far back in an on-speed-dominated race, still managing to close within 2.6 lengths of Ballet D’Esprit. Barrier 13 means Jay Ford may need to retreat to the rear of the field again, but with a strong tempo, and a fair surface on offer with the rail in the true position, Lady Extreme should get every chance to make amends second-up.
Best Value
Race 7 – #4 Lady Extreme (13)
4yo Mare | T: Blake Ryan | J: Jay Ford (59.5kg)
