Queensland racing will return to Doomben Racecourse this Wednesday afternoon for a very competitive nine-race card. The track was rated as a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances; however, with no rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, it is expected that the surface will improve before the meeting begins. The rail will be in the +6m position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off at 11:43am AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben: Matisse
Anthony & Sam Freedman will send Matisse to Doomben for her first start in Queensland following a winless maiden preparation in Melbourne. Although the daughter of Microphone is still a maiden, she has Group 2 and Group 3 placings to her name and finished seventh in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in her most recent start. This assignment will be much easier than her first three starts, and with even luck, Matisse should prove way too good for her rivals.

Next Best at Doomben: Malarina
Malarina is yet to miss the placings from seven career races, and the Annabel Neasham-trained filly overcame some difficulties in running to produce one of her best performances behind the smart Acid Wash at the Sunshine Coast last start. Jag Guthman-Chester will push forward from barrier 13 to settle behind the speed, and if Malarina shows the same turn of foot as she did last time, she will prove hard to hold out.

Next Best Again at Doomben: Steel King
Steel King was well backed first-up at this track over 1110m on June 6, running home nicely without threatening the winner to finish third. The son of Deep Field took ground off the winner in the final 100m, however, indicating that a rise in trip second-up should suit. From barrier six, Robbie Dolan can settle midfield off the fence before peeling out wide on the home turn and allowing Steel King to let down with a strong finish.
