Trainer Mike Moroney is happy to back the talent of his three-year-old filly Coeur Volante (NZ) (Proisir) despite almost a month between runs in Saturday’s Gr.1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.
Coeur Volante has won three out of her four starts and kicked off this campaign with a win in the Gr.2 Champagne Stakes at The Valley on September 29.
She then won the Gr.2 Tranquil Star Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 21 and hasn’t started since.
“She’s a naturally gifted filly. We considered giving her another run in between, but we decided she didn’t need it,” Moroney said.
Moroney said they put Coeur Volante away for the Thousand Guineas after she won her second start, which was over 1300 metres at Sandown Hillside on June 14.
“As soon as she won we put the Thousand Guineas on her agenda, so we put her out as we knew this race had been put back,” Moroney said.
“It has been a bit of a job keeping her up as she only had a short break over winter. Whatever she does now she’ll be better in the autumn.”
Moroney said he was thankful Blake Shinn had decided to start his suspension for whip use after the Caulfield meeting.
Coeur Volante was sold by Prima Park at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Sale for $90,000 to Paul Moroney Bloodstock and had some barrier trials in New Zealand as a juvenile under the guidance of Ballymore co-trainer Pam Gerard.
