Can Magical Lagoon win the 2023 Melbourne Cup?

Former Group 1 Irish Oaks winner Magical Lagoon will be one of four Chris Waller Melbourne Cup horses in the 2023 race.

Having not won in Australia since arriving in early 2023, the five-year-old mare is set to compete as one of the rank outsiders in the 2023 Melbourne Cup.

Let’s take a look at the form and winning hopes for Magical Lagoon.

When will Magical Lagoon run in the Melbourne Cup?

The Melbourne Cup will be run on the first Tuesday in November at Flemington in front of a sold out crowd.

The one thing that hasn’t changed about the 2023 Melbourne Cup is the horses.

Once again The Cup has brought together an elite field of Melbourne Cup horses to contest the two mile race for $8.41 million.

Can Magical Lagoon win the 2023 Melbourne Cup?

Magical Lagoon was feeling the pinch late in the Geelong Cup and was overrun by her rivals. That was over 2400m and the extra 800m she gets on Tuesday, doesn’t look like it will favour her too much. Mark Du Plessis will have her settled close to the speed and she will be there or thereabouts on the home turn. However, she is $101 with Unibet for a reason, having not won since arriving in Australia and struggling in easier company. Magical Lagoon might be in the final few to cross the line.
