The Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive nine-race card at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5, and with rain on the forecast for Friday, we don’t expect the conditions to change much from the current rating. The rail will be in the +2.5m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race scheduled to jump at 11:58am AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben: Deep Respect
Deep Respect from the Kelly Schweida stable kicked off his career in fine style with a dominant win at this track, before finishing second behind the smart Tiger Shark last start over 1200m on August 26. This three-year-old colt will step up in distance to 1350m for the first time in his career, but considering how strong he went through the line over 1200m, the rise in trip should suit. This son of Deep Field will retain the services of James Orman for his third ride in as many starts, and if he can push forward and find the one-one position from barrier four, Deep Respect will go very close to winning again.

Next Best at Doomben: Be Water My Friend
The Matthew Park-trained Be Water My Friend has been in great form of late, missing the placings just once from his last four starts, including a win at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m four starts back. At his two previous starts, this six-year-old gelding has finished second each time, beaten by Seleque and Hot Spring Gold in Class 6 Handicaps at Doomben and Eagle Farm. Now that he strikes a similar grade with much weaker opposition, this son of Headwater should get his best chance to win in town on a Saturday in some time. Mark Du Plessis will stick with him and if he can lead or settle outside leader from the good barrier (3), he will get every possible chance.

Best Value at Doomben: Telephone Booth
After performing admirably in Benchmark 70 grade with 59kg last start, Telephone Booth from the Mark Currie yard looks ideally placed with 53kg in this No Metro Wins Handicap on Saturday afternoon. At her most recent start, this five-year-old mare settled behind the speed and when trying to make her run, she was squeezed by two rivals and lost her momentum before picking herself up to finish fourth. Now that this daughter of Top Echolon is third-up, at peak fitness and has drawn a great barrier (3), Taylor Marshall will look to push forward and settle in the box seat. If Telephone Booth gets clear running at the 300m mark, she will give us a great sight at the current odds of +1600 with online bookmakers.
