Feature racing heads to Rosehill Gardens on Saturday as the three-year-olds step out for the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) and San Domenico Stakes (1100m). The rail is out +6m from the 1500m to the winning post, then out +4m for the remainder. We’re hopeful the weather is kind, with only a small chance of rain on the forecast, so we’ll be doing the form for a Good 4 surface. The first of 10 races are set to get underway at 11:45am AEST.
Up And Coming Stakes: Tom Kitten
In a wide-open edition of the Up And Coming Stakes, the double-figure odds on offer for Tom Kitten seem massive overs for a proven stakes-grade colt. The son of Harry Angel already has a Listed victory on his resume, taking out the Fernhill Stakes at Randwick on April 8. He then contested the Group 1 Champagne Stakes on Day 2 of The Championships, where he was no match for Militarize. That looks like A-grade form, and Tom Kitten’s recent barrier trials have been nothing short of sensational. He’ll need to give 6kg to the bottomweight, but he just may prove classy enough.

San Domenico Stakes: Corniche
Corniche finished his two-year-old campaign in style, taking out the Group 2 Skyline Stakes and defeating eventual Golden Slipper winner Shinzo in the process. The colt by Fastnet Rock has been eye-catching at the jump-outs, and with Nash Rawiller set to take the reins from a favourable gate (6), we expect Corniche to find a spot somewhere forward of mid-field before unleashing down the centre of the course.

Best Bet at Rosehill: Call Di
Call Di returned from a 140-day spell at Rosehill on August 12 and sweated up badly in the parade ring prior to the race, resulting in a significant drift in the market with online betting sites. It proved to be her downfall, along with a lack of race fitness. We expect Call Di to make massive improvements here, and with a possible change of tactics, look for her to come flashing home late under Nash Rawiller.

Next Best at Rosehill: Marquess
Marquess returned from a lengthy spell to secure his third-straight win at Warwick Farm on August 9. He couldn’t have been more impressive, barreling down the middle of the course to score a half-length victory. It was more dominant than the margin may suggest, and while he takes on weekend company for the first time, we’re confident Marquess will stack up comfortably. Gate one is the minor concern, but we’ll leave it to James McDonald to weave a passage.

Best Value at Rosehill: Inver Park
Inver Park is an overseas import worth following based on his first-up effort in Australia. It was a strong closing performance at Randwick on July 29 behind Insurrection, where he made up significant ground from last when turning for home. He should appreciate the step up in trip to the 1400m, and with the Kris Lees camp happy to move into BM100 company, Inver Park looks perfectly placed to peak second-up.
