Doomben Racecourse will play host to a very competitive nine-race program this Saturday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 7 due to a deluge in the Brisbane area earlier in the week, but with no more rain on the forecast, we should begin the meeting on a Soft 5 at worst. The rail will be in the +1m position for the entire circuit, with racing set to commence at 11:43am AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben: Dragonstone
It has been over a year since the Joseph Pride-trained Dragonstone has found the winner’s circle; however, this race marks a big class drop from his second-place finish in the Listed June Stakes at Randwick last start. On that day, the four-year-old gelding had nowhere to go when the field rounded the home turn and had to check off heels before letting down. After getting clear, this son of Mikki Isle thundered home but couldn’t pick up Spacewalk and went down by a long neck. James Orman will have his first ride on the horse this weekend, and with a good amount of speed expected in this race, it should set up perfectly for Dragonstone to unleash his superior finishing burst.

Next Best at Doomben: Sailor’s Secret
Sailor’s Secret dominated his rivals at Ipswich over 1350m on June 17, peeling off the leader’s back on the home turn before careering away for a stylish 2.8-length victory. On Saturday, Cejay Graham will get back aboard for her fourth ride on this son of Better Than Ready, seeking her second win on him. Jumping from barrier eight, Sailor’s Secret should get a similar run to last start, and if he gets clear air with 300m to go, we should see the same result.

Best Value at Doomben: Don’t Stop
Even though this six-year-old gelding finished eighth of 16 in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes last start, he was only beaten by 2.4 lengths. After settling in the back half of the field, Georgina Cartwright had to wait for a gap to appear at the 300m mark before pushing the button; however, the race was just about over by the time he got out and flew home down the outside. With this son of Mahisara now third-up (4:2-0-1) this weekend and stepping up from 1350m to 1600m, there are a lot of points in his favour, and we are more than happy to play at the $15 quote with the top online bookmakers.
