The Tamworth Jockey Club & Function Centre is a hub for horse racing in the New England region of NSW and continues to provide excellent facilities for trainers across the surrounding areas.
Tamworth Racecourse has been a feature track for country racing since it’s inception and within range of Gunnedah, Armidale and Quirindi, making it accessible for more racing precincts in surrounding areas.
The Tamworth Jockey Club plays host to 29 race meetings per year and with 120 gallopers utilising the facilities daily – including provincial trainers like Cody Morgan, Sue Grills and Kris Lees. The status of Tamworth Jockey Club continues to grow.
The ‘Country Music Capital’ has consistently provided good prize money for owners and connections, with the annual Tamworth Gold Cup ($200,000) getting a major boost in prizemoney, and of course now being a Big Dance qualifier for later in the year.

The ‘Country Music Capital’ is becoming rather large in population with roughly 65,000 residents which only skyrockets with visitors for this music early in the year. However, there are plenty of Public Transport services, with Buses scheduled regularly at major attractions across the town, whether it be the Golden Guitar or the Country Music Museum, there’s sure to be buses taking racegoers either into the CBD or to the course proper.
If Sydney siders are making their way to Tamworth for a weekend of racing, the drive will set you back 4 hours & 47 minutes via the M1 before getting on the New England Highway.
As always, if you’d rather get to Tamworth without sitting behind the wheel, Sydney Central Train Station has regularly scheduled buses and trains every day. So be sure to organise your trip with that in mind when going to this gloriously picturesque horse racing track.
