Palaisipan proves too classy for her rivals in Tatts Tiara triumph

The 2023 edition of the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara has provided Palaisipan, her rider Kyle Wilson-Taylor and trainer Chris Munce their maiden Group 1 victories.

After running third in the race last year, the daughter of So You Think was sent around as somewhat of an outsider at $13 with most online bookmakers.

Lady Of Honour and Chain Of Lightning set a solid tempo for the Group 1 feature, and Wilson-Taylor settled his five-year-old mare in behind the leaders after jumping sweetly from barrier 12.

Once the field rounded the home turn, Wilson-Taylor had to wait for a run to appear in between the slowing leaders and once it did, he pushed the button and Palaisipan burst through the opening and took the lead with 50m to go.

As you would expect, Wilson-Taylor stood up in the irons as he crossed the finish line and gave the crowd a big salute after claiming that elusive Group 1 victory.

Chris Munce became the first person to win the race as a trainer and jockey, and he spoke post-race about the win of Palaisipan.

“You’ve got no idea of the emotions I’m feeling at the moment. It’s the ride of a lifetime with a mare like her,” Munce said.

“We paid nothing for her, she’s been all up and down the east coast for us and performed at the top level in every race she competed in.

“I don’t know what to say. I’m so overwhelmed at the moment because so much goes into these horses, to mold them and develop them.

“I knew whatever won the race today would have to be good to beat her because she improved out of sight from the Stradbroke.

“I watched her work here on Tuesday morning and I went home and said ‘I don’t care what’s in the race, they’d want to be good to beat her on Saturday.”

As we have mentioned earlier, Kyle Wilson-Taylor recorded his first Group 1 victory, and he was very emotional when speaking post-race.

“I can’t believe it. I’m on top of the world. I just can’t believe it,” Wilson-Taylor exclaimed.

“It just goes to show that if you want something in life and put in the hard work you can achieve it.

“I can’t thank Chris and the connections enough. This is the greatest moment of my life so far.”
