A drop in class after taking on smart types at Addington is why Jimmy Carter is the pick of Phil Williamson’s team at Wyndham on Saturday.
The master trotting trainer takes four runners to the Forbury Park meeting with three of them squaring off against each other in the meeting’s feature trot.
Majestic Love, Our Golden Kenny and Jimmy Carter go head-to-head, with the trio rated the top three favourites for race 5.
The market has the three Williamson runners evenly matched, but their trainer thinks it is reasonably clear cut as to who is top pick.
“I think it is pretty easy – Jimmy Carter has been racing much harder fields at Addington,” Williamson said.
“The risk is he can make a mistake, but I think all of the tools are there for him on Saturday.”
“He’s on the back mark on his own, so hopefully he can get away.”
“He has been racing a higher class of horse and I would have thought he would be hard to beat if he does things right.”
Majestic Love has been in great form recently and ran to a comfortable win at Ascot Park last week.
The mare starts from the same 10m handicap on Saturday and she races mainly the same horse, with the key exception of Jimmy Carter.
“She is a lovely mare and I have been very pleased with her,” Williamson said.
“There is no reason she won’t go another very good race again, but with the times Jimmy Carter it will be hard for her to beat him.”
Our Golden Kenny is in a similar position to Majestic Love.
She is also a genuine winning threat, but she faces a big ask taking on a seasoned campaigner in Jimmy Carter.
“She is a quality little mare, but she has only had six starts and she’s got to race Jimmy Carter who has won 12 races.”
“If it weren’t for her ability she would still be running around in maidens learning the game.”
“She is a quality mare and she can win the race but it is tough for her because she is still learning the ropes.”
Williamson also lines up the consistent Dwindle Star in race 2.
The mare hit the line strongly in her last start, chasing home her stablemate Majestic Love in a higher rated race.
Dwindle Star looks well placed in rating 35-50 company on Saturday.
“She went good at Invercargill, she is a good, honest horse, and I’d be expecting the same from her on Saturday.”
Oliver Kite combines with Dwindle Star with Mark Hurrell to drive Jimmy Carter, Kaleb Bublitz to drive Majestic Love and Nathan Williamson to partner Our Golden Kenny.
