Racing returns to the synthetic track at Pakenham on Tuesday afternoon for a competitive nine-race program. A top of 11 degrees with a shower or two is forecast, meaning it may not be too disadvantageous to be up on speed to avoid potential kick-back. The first race is set to jump at 12:25pm AEST.
Best Bet at Pakenham: Collison
The Colin Scott-trained Collison is long overdue a maiden win and strikes a race that should see him breakthrough on Tuesday. The four-year-old gelding ran into subsequent Sandown winner Flying On A Limb first-up at Cranbourne before seemingly struggling on a Heavy 10 at Ballarat on May 28. We are happy to rule a line through that last start effort and on his synthetic track debut, we’re confident it is his race to lose. The son of Written Tycoon has enough early speed to cross the field from barrier eight under Jarrod Fry and if he can find the rail or at worst sit outside the lead, the 1000m looks ideal and under a well-rated steer from Fry, Collison is going to take some running down.

Next Best at Pakenham: Sparkling Blue
Sparkling Blue was only gunned down in the shadows of the winning post first-up and we expect the Foxwedge mare to go one better on Tuesday. The four-year-old mare led the field for essentially 1380m of the 1400m, but second-up from a spell, she gets her chance. That was her first start on a synthetic track and has drawn barrier three under Emily Pozman who sticks on board claiming 3kg. She steps back to the 1200m, so we expect she will be hitting the lone strongly compared to some of her rivals and if she can gain a cheap sectional in the lead, Sparkling Blue will prove too hard to gun down.

Best Value at Pakenham: Wok Star
Wok Star has always threatened to blow a field away and despite being a $18 chance with online bookmakers, she might just do that on Tuesday. She has struck bottomless tracks at her last two runs, but her win on a Good 3 at Kyneton three runs back suggests she will run a smart race as she gets back to a firmer track. Both of her career wins have come when settling in the first four and from barrier eight, if apprentice Luke Campbell can land the one-one she can give us a sight at a big price. With 58.5kg on her back following Campbell’s 2kg claim, Wok Star has a nice turn of foot for this grade and looks a great play in the opening leg of the quaddie.
