NSW metropolitan racing will head to Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday afternoon for a quickfire six-race program. The rail is out +5m the entire circuit for the meeting, and with pristine conditions forecast over the coming days, we should be racing on a Good 4 surface. The first race is set to get underway at 1:25pm AEST.
Best Bet: Principessa
We tipped Principessa last start and were ready to put her in the ‘forget’ file if she didn’t get the job done at Canterbury on May 24; however, we simply must be forgiving her one more time when she goes around in the penultimate on Wednesday. Principessa was enormous over the 1250m and once again provided her customary turn-of-foot from back in the field, flying into another minor placing to add on to her resume. It was disappointing this daughter of Vadamos didn’t get the photo finish in her favor, but she was clearly one of the runs of the day and now seeking the 1400m for the first time in preparation, we’re happy to give her another chance. Jockey Jason Collett knows her well with eight starts in the saddle, all of which have resulted in victory or finding the frame, and with a bit more luck, Principessa can chalk up her second career win here.

Next Best: Herself
The fourth race on the program is for the stayers over the 2400m and we’re keen to be with the Newly transferred New Zealand Import, Herself. She’s only had one start here in Australia for trainer Guy Lowry before being switched over to the John O’Shea stable and we love what we saw at Rosehill on May 20. She missed the start significantly and you would’ve thought Herself would finish somewhere towards to rear of the field; however, the mare by Redwood continue to chase home strongly before getting crowded for room with 300m to go. She may not have won the race, but she clearly would’ve finished much closer than the 2.4-length margin suggests. Kerrin McEvoy takes the reins this time and provided he gives Herself a more economical run throughout the journey, we’re confident she can find her first win here in Australia.

Next Best Again: Immortal Island
The opening race is for maiden company, and we’re excited by the debut of the Annabel Neasham-trained colt Immortal Island. He’s had two impressive barrier trials, but we were particularly taken with his latest effort at Rosehill on June 6. He sat quietly in behind the speed before being asked to make inroads towards the inside running rail and didn’t shirk the task at any stage, finding second behind another nice type, Shadow Raiders. Immortal Island looks like a nice progressive type and with a map to track the leaders every step of the way, jockey Dylan Gibbons should give him every chance to make his debut start a winning one.
